Renowned academician, cartoonist and satirist Spire Jimmy Ssentongo, a lecturer of philosophy at Makerere University on Monday evening took to Twitter to reveal how his life is endangered.
Spire in a veiled tweet seeminly retreated from his routine exhibitions that he had initiated on Twitter. Spire was the proponent of the much appreciated #KampalaPotholeExhibition that compelled government to devise plans to fix the dire state of roads in the capital city, Kampala. Spire later on dared the Minister of Health with his #UgandaHealthExhibition but there was no quick action or accountability witnessed like in the maiden campaign.
This very week was supposed to be the #UgandaSecurityExhibition in which Spire and his followers were to throw light on the state of police brutality. The activists were to Monday 22nd to Sunday 28th May focus on five Key areas;
5. Heroes/Heroin in police.
However, Spire in a Monday 23rd May tweet said he had retracted from the campaign citing a span of death threats being cast at him by members of security agencies.
“I’m aware of evil plans aimed at me. Well, I’ve made my humble contribution. I hope this country traces its soul. I hope a time comes when we ask ourselves: Is this the best we can be? I leave now, but: SILENCE ALL ALARM BIRDS, SNAKES WILL COME IN SILENCE,” Spire tweeted.
It was a pleasure.
