JBMuwonge: This letter arrived in my inbox around 7:00am today disqualifying the National Unity Platform candidate Nattabi Margaret from the Makerere University Guild Election race, as well as one Namwoza Sulaiman, a fellow member of our party who made the difficult decision not to participate in our primaries for fear of being disqualified. All of this follows the enactment of a bizarre statute that bans political parties at Makerere University and makes all elections virtual.

As I read the letter, I could feel my blood boiling with anger and frustration. It’s sickening and sad to see those in power use such dirty tactics to maintain their hold on the country. They have clearly been losing elections for years and have now resorted to these criminal and shameful measures in order to avoid embarrassment.

It’s not just Nattabi Margaret and Namwoza Sulaiman who have been targeted. Even the remaining candidates are being coerced into making videos distancing themselves from political parties, particularly National Unity Platform under threat of disqualification. It’s hard to fathom the kind of intimidation and manipulation that is taking place in our country.

The stated crime of participating in a Kimeeza is a flimsy excuse. It’s obvious that those in power are afraid of opposition viewpoints and groups, and will go to any lengths to silence them. This is a grave violation of our basic human rights to freedom of speech and association.

PART TWO: THE UNTOLD STORY OF IVAN; SUSPECT IN ENTEBBE WOMEN MURDERS OF 2017/18

It’s high time that we, sons and daughters of this Land stand up to this tyranny and demand change. The time is long over due, We must not allow those in power, Dictator Museveni and his group to continue to abuse their positions and stifle our voices. We must fight for justice, for our rights to be respected, and for a better future for our country. This is our country and we are the Future and the future is today, Museveni and his group are in the evenings of their ages. We must stop this.

My heart goes out to Nattabi Margaret and Namwoza Sulaiman, and to all those who have been unfairly targeted and disqualified. We stand with you and will do everything in our respective capacities to fight for justice and democracy in our country. This is our country and we are the Future and the future is today. Thank you Mr Bobi Wine for inspiring us to speak out, we shall not rest till we reach the finish line. #JBMuwonge
