In wake of the macabre events that gripped the Ugandan mainstream and social media press over the weekend, the shadow internal affairs Minister under the NUP party Member of Parliament for Mukono Hon. Abdullah Kiwanuka has demanded for accountability from the central government internal affairs ministry led by Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire.
Speaking to journalists about the gruesome killings in Kasese where ADF rebels breached Ugandan border security and decimated 42 civilians including 37 students, Hon. Abdullah Kiwanuka says he faults the security agencies for failing to respond on time as the rebels utilized close to 2 hours unleashing terror on civilians.
“How did state authorities like the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence-CMI and Criminal Investigations Department fail to detect the attack?,” Kiwanuka wonders. “Several questions have to be asked. Where was CMI and CID because they are mandated to detect crime before it’s committed? They must explain,” he insisted.
“They (Otafiire and Gen. David Muhoozi) must come and explain what exactly happened. We need a thorough explanation from the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” he added.
The NUP MP says he will today bring to notice the legitimacy of operation Shujjaa in the Eastern DRC jungles where Ugandan troops are claiming to be battling ADF yet on Ugandan soil, terror attacks are starting to manifest.
“Tuesday, Parliament is opening. So we are going to task ministers and whoever is responsible to explain to the country whether we are safe. Is it still relevant to continue keeping our forces across the borders?,” he questions.
Relatedly, Nakaseke MP Luttamaguzi Ssemakula says government acted unserious when it did not take the US Embassy security alerts in high regard. Last week, the US in its travel advisory updates to its citizens predicted a terror attack on Ugandan territory and it occured barely days after it was issued.
