While speaking to hordes of mourners yesterday in Nkozi, Mpigi District during the send off of ex Rubaga South MP Kato Lubwama, President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert alias Bobi Wine called on musicians and artistes to refrain from being victims of government handouts.
A charged Bobi Wine lauded the deceased Kato for having committed the final moments of his life advocating for a streamlined entertainment and film industry.
Bobi emphasized the significance of the autonomy of artistes. He said this can only be realized if the eleventh parliament approves and passes the eagerly awaited copyright law.
“I deployed Hon. Kiyaga Hillary aka Dr. Hilderman to collect all your thoughts and ideas on the copyright law. So many of you have always asked yourselves why the Nigerian entertainment industry is booming but the logic is clear, their artistes are protected by the copyright law,” Bobi said.
He further more lashed out at musicians for pocketing UGX 30 billion that government blew to the Musicians Federation. Bobi highlighted the importance of establishing favorable legal frameworks to secure artistes’ rights and fair compensation, other than relying solely on monetary importance.
Bobi clarified on his relationship with the deceased and said he himself is a testament of the fruits of Hon. Kato, whom he emulated when he joined the legislative assembly.
The funeral convened chunks of mourners from both Buganda Kingdom, central government, music and film industry, and other political party leaders.
