The leader of the National Unity Platform Hon Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi wine is among the many top opposition politicians who are attending a consultative workshop on constitutional and electoral reforms at Speke resort Munyonyo organised by the leader of Opposition.
In his speech today however, the 2021 Presidential Candidate who won the polls said there is now way the reforms will come or be implemented when the country is still under the dictatorship of President Yoweri Museveni who according to him has never respected the constitution and unwilling to do so.
Kyagulanyi said that what needs to be done first is to push the regime in power out and thats when the electoral and constitution reforms will have meaning.
“Today as we enjoy the elegance of this five star facility to discuss governance issues, we must not forget the harsh realities that we face. …I want to remind you that we live under a military dictatorship. It disregards the rule of law, Undermines all institutions of state. It is family rule,”Kyagulanyi said on Thursday.
“One lesson we have learnt from the experiences of those who challenged Museveni before us and from our own experience is that for as long as the Museveni regime is in power, Uganda will never experience fair electoral processes, or even uphold constitutional governance. This regime sustains itself in power by denying its opponents any political fairness. So, the first thing to do is to get rid of this regime. Only then shall we expect respect for any political discussion,” he added.
The retreat is closing today with a keynote address from four time opposition presidential candidate Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye.
